Berks Earth Day Poetry Contest
Every year students from Berks County, grades 5th-8th, can submit poems to be entered in the Berks County Earth Day Poetry Contest.
2012 Poetry Contest
This is the 23rd year for the Earth Day Celebration Poetry Contest. The Poetry Theme for the current contest is "Power to the People", but poems MUST NOT use that phrase as a title. They need to have an original title. Any form of poetry may be entered, but only one page, please. Poems longer than one page will be disqualified.
This contest is for 5th to 8th grade students with poems competing for 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize:
- 1st Prize a $75 CASH PRIZE
- 2nd Prize a $50 CASH PRIZE
- 3rd Prize a $25 CASH PRIZE
Prizes will be awarded to each grade level: 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th The contest is open to all Berks County Schools and Teachers in each district may submit 10 entries per class, (example: 3 classes, 30 entries). Deadline for submission is March 16th, 2012.
All entries MUST include the following:
- Name of student & grade level
- Teacher's name & contact info (e-mail or phone)
- School district and name of building
Student entries can be sent in from other sources, such as: Scout groups, Boys & Girls Club, and students on their own can send in a poem. Winning poems will be displayed at Riverfront Park during the Earth Day Celebration and winning students will be asked to read their poems at the stage.
